My name is Kamal Ortiz and I am a tenth grader at Sacramento New Technology High School. I am 15 years old and was born in Auburn, CA. I have lived in California for most of my life. The only time I didn't was the first three years of my life when I lived in Reno, NV. My family then moved to Clovis, a small suburb of Fresno, where we lived for 5 years. Then, when I was 8, we moved to Sacramento. We lived in the Pocket area for a few years and then moved to a house in Land Park. In 2009, my parents decided to get a divorce. This obviously created some stress in my life, and middle school was kind of a struggle, but I still had fun and lived as well as I could. When I got to New Tech, I thought that I was going to be alone because I didn't know anyone there. But when I got here, I quickly realized that I would be far from alone and would create friendships and bonds with teachers and students that will last a lifetime. Last year, I discovered a hidden interest in music production. I have always loved music from when I was a young'un, mostly because I was raised around it and my parents are both music lovers and have tastes that span across genres. This exposed me to all types of music and has given me a wide range of perspectives. My goal in life is to become a music producer. I make music at home but I would like to study music in college. I am also interested in taking psychology classes in college because I am interested in the psyche of living things, not only humans but also animals.
